4th XI Match ReportsBroomfield 5 - 2 Bank of England 28/09/2002This year’s 4th Team (last years 6th Team) kicked off their season with a home match against bank of England on the second pitch at Hazelwood. The result was a 5-2 win with goals from Mogg (2),Gayle,Godwin & Carrington. It was always going to be interesting to see how the team would cope with the step up in divisions and in the early exchanges took time to adjust to not only the pace but also the physical strength of the opposition. After going a goal down early on Broonfield equalised with a penalty by Mogg, went a goal down again and equalised again with a fine free kick from Godwin,2-2 at halftime. Second half was a different story with Broomfield now acclimatised to the conditions played with the verve, pace & skill seen in last years performances. Gayle scored to make it 3-2,Carrington increased the lead with one of the best goals seen for a long time and Mogg made it safe with 10 minutes to go. Good performances from Paul Russell ,Jamie Bracknell & debutant Andy Pearcy all added to an enjoyable afternoon. To summarise a good opening performance against a strong Bank side, early days but if this performance sets the standard we look forward to a successful season. back to top | Back Home | Back to Stats Merton 6 - 4 Broomfield 05/10/2002After the high of last weeks win Broomfield’s 4th team were brought down with a bump against a very strong Merton side 4-6. Merton’s young side consisting of several players on the books of Fulham FC where just that bit stronger and in the early stages of the game gave Broomfield a severe test that no other side had managed to do for a long time. Although Broomfield went one up (Carrington) this was very much against the run of play and once Merton equalised they soon threatened to run away with the game. Half time saw the score 1-3 and changes needed to be made if we where not going to make a very long journey home on the back of really bad defeat. Legos was brought on at full back and Agudelo moved to centre back to help compete with the pace of the Merton forwards. At first it appeared the changes would make little difference as Merton made it 1-4 but then Broomfield where awarded a penalty which Mogg duly despatched. This seemed to raise the spirits and when we where awarded another penalty, again scored by Mogg from the rebound it looked a slightly different game to the first half. Merton then scored to make it 3-5,Godwin pulled one back 4-5 and eventually Merton made it 4-6 to settle the game. It’s not often that we will come up against a side as strong as this Merton side, who will be extremely difficult to beat if they manage to keep that side, however it will have done no harm for the players to realise that you have to earn success and that when you come up against sides as good as yourselves it who wants it most who succeeds. back to top | Back Home | Back to Stats Broomfield 1 - 2 South Bank Cuaco 12/10/2002Broomfield 4th Team went down 1-2 to South Bank Cuaco on the 2nd pitch at Hazelwood last Saturday. Missing the pace and skill of Carrington (injured) and Bricknell (AWOL) Broomfield struggled against a resolute South Bank Cuaco side who although possibly without the ability of Broomfield more than matched us for commitment and desire. South bank led in a scrappy first half 1-0 and when in the second half Broomfield equalised through Peter Mogg it seemed as the home side would take advantage and carry on to secure all the points. However an unfortunate goal was given away to put the visitors in the lead, a position which Broomfield where unable to reverse in the remaining time. So three games played,1 won and 2 lost, time for the players to stand up and be counted. |
