Old Finchlieans 0 - 4 Broomfield 31/08/02 (Friendly)

Brooms started their friendly programme with a comfortable win over local SAL rivals Finchlieans. On a difficult playing surface Brooms displayed good close control of the ball and their clever passing movements proved too much for the Finchlieans. Owusu opened the scoring after twenty minutes when he out-muscled a hesitant defender to fire home from close range.Brooms added to the score before half time with the their best move of the match. The ball was moved from defence through midfield to leave new signing Stewart clear, he made no mistake cleverly wrong footing the goalkeeper before sliding the ball home. Brooms continued to dominate for most of the second half adding further goals from Nelson and Golding. With both teams tiring in the last twenty minutes Finchlieans hade their best attacking spell. Robbins in goal had to stay alert to field several goal bound efforts, and produced one fine save from a fierce drive. With several key players still to return from injury, and Floyd Nelson,s form justifying the clubs decision to recommend him for AFA representative honours ,there is much cause for optimism about the forthcoming season.
