4th XI Match Reports

BROOMFIELD 4 3 - 5 Southgate Olympic 4 15/11/03

Scorers: Stuart, Combe, Payne

Saturday came around but half of the fourth team didn’t, as a result a reshuffle was in order and some of the sixth teams brightest prospects, including Dave Chapman, were drafted in. The first half did not go our way and some notably Andy Combe predicted a ‘cricket score’ result with Olympic 3-0 up at half time. It could have been worse as Dario produced a splendid save from a penalty following an ex-Broomfield player being ‘fouled’. The second half started in the same fashion with Olympic getting another goal 0 - 4. Olympic continued to attack and it was only thanks to the impressive Dave Harrison that they had less scoring chances. Broomfield got a goal back thanks to a good header from Stewart at the near post from a drilled corner 1 - 4, any chance of a possible comeback was seemingly eradicated when Olympic scored their fifth 1 - 5. Dario pulled off a flying save from a driven free kick to keep the score down and Broomfield did not give up the ghost, following good work from Liam and first half substitute Kevin, David Combe stroked the ball past the ‘keeper 2 - 5. Unbelievably Martin Payne scored a screamer of a goal from 30 yards out after a barnstorming run to make it 3 - 5. Kevin had two good chances to pull another goal back but he sent his lobs just wide on both occasions. Dave Chapman was generous in giving himself Man of the Match for the fourth week running.
